TD-SCDMA Update

-According to a Xinhua News report, China's Chongqing CYIT (Chongyou Information Technology) and Hong Kong-based CASH (Celestial Asia Securities Holdings) announced that they will form a joint venture for R&D and commercialization of TD-SCDMA chips, with each holding a 50% stake. Under the tie-up, the two companies will jointly develop TD-SCDMA chips, leveraging CYIT's TD-SCDMA technology. CASH plans to inject no less than 300 million RMB (US$39.6 million; US$1 = 7.6 RMB) in the joint venture.

-According to an AFX News report, China's TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance is expected to sign a licensing agreement with Taiwanese mobile phone makers, whereby the latter will be allowed to sell own-branded TD-SCDMA phones in China, in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Furthermore, the alliance plans to collaborate with Taiwanese companies to construct a TD-SCDMA trial network in Taiwan.
